Doomsday vs SCP-682: Why the Unkillable Lizard Wins This Fight
Both monsters refuse to stay dead, but adaptability, regeneration and a higher dimensional source give SCP-682 the edge over the DC creature built to kill Superman.
Doomsday versus SCP-682 pits two of the most broken, most indestructible and most unkillable monsters in all of fiction against each other, and SCP-682 wins. It's not even close, and the reason comes down to which monster can adapt better and which one is truly unkillable.
In a fight where neither side can ever really die, it's fair to ask who comes out on top and whether it's even close. To answer that, I'll start with Doomsday, who is essentially the living embodiment of death.
Doomsday was created to be stronger than Superman, and he has the feats to show it
Doomsday is essentially the living embodiment of death. Darkseid himself called him "death personified," and with accolades like that you have to be impressive. Doomsday really is. Superman said Doomsday could rip the planet in half if he really wanted to. He's sent Supergirl flying, knocked around Wonder Woman, and overpowered both Orion and Martian Manhunter. One of his opponents said he'd never been hit as hard as Doomsday hit him. He's even taken down the whole Justice League, trouncing the league all by himself.
Then there are all his fights against Superman. He's punched Superman like he's never been hit before, and he can hit harder than anybody else Superman has fought. Doomsday just keeps getting stronger as they fight. There was a reason he was created in the comics back in the '90s: it was literally to kill Superman, to be stronger and more powerful than Superman. Over the years he might even have shown that he's more powerful than Superman's ultimate villain, Darkseid.
Doomsday fought Darkseid, overpowered him, beat him up, trashed him and left him for dead, literally on the verge of death where he could barely stand. Superman had to step in and save his life. That's how badly Doomsday beat the Lord of Apokolips, a guy who has beaten Superman with just two punches. That said, I would take Doomsday legitimately beating Darkseid with a big hunk of salt. That doesn't seem right at all.
Still, Doomsday has done a lot of impressive things. He once plowed through many different versions of Gog, who were able to fight members of the Justice Society and defeat Kingdom Come Superman. He's also torn through countless Imperiex probes, when just one probe was enough to give Superman a run for his money.
Doomsday is just as tough, and he quite literally cannot be killed
Doomsday's durability matches his strength. He's taken attacks from Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, a lot of Kryptonians and Superman himself. He's taken punches from Superman when Clark said he was hitting him with everything he had, and he's taken thousands of Superman's punches all in an instant. Superman sends him flying and landing all over the place on a semiregular basis, and Doomsday just consistently refuses to go down.
He's also taken heat vision blasts, attacks from Green Lantern and Orion's energy beams. A Guardian of the Universe went full kamikaze on him, and it only barely put Doomsday out. He came back a little while later. Even Darkseid's Omega Beams only put Doomsday down for maybe a few seconds, and he was back up almost instantly.
Here's the real kicker: Doomsday quite literally cannot be killed. He can't be permanently put down and he's always going to keep coming back. No matter what you throw at him, and even if you straight up kill him, Doomsday is still going to come back. He has literally evolved past death.
SCP-682 comes from a community writing project, so this is a composite version
SCP-682 is a large reptile creature of unknown origin. It appears to be extremely intelligent and hates all human life, both because it views humans as cockroaches and because it has been tortured by them for decades. Because of this, it will try to kill most people on sight.
Before getting into 682, some context on the SCP Foundation helps. The Foundation is tasked with capturing and studying paranormal and supernatural phenomena while keeping their existence hidden from the outside world. That part is pretty simple. Where it gets complicated is that SCP is based on the SCP wiki, which is a community writing project.
It's awesome and such a cool creative story, but it also means there are tons of different canons and interpretations of characters, and a lot of them conflict, mostly because anybody can write for the site. So I'm working with a composite version of SCP-682, trying to find the most consistent version of the character across all the different canons.
SCP-682's origins are a mystery, but its immortality is broken beyond belief
The origins of 682 are shrouded in mystery. Some say it's the survivor of a catastrophic world ending event. Others say it's the child of the Scarlet King. Maybe it's the serpent from the garden that offered humanity the forbidden fruit of knowledge. Maybe it's a god itself, the very concept of hate. Maybe none of this is true, and maybe all of it is. It was found by the SCP Foundation after murdering a group of farmers, but it seems to have existed for all of human history, inspiring humanity's fear of snakes and dragons.
682 hates all life, so it goes out of its way to kill everyone it can, constantly escaping from the Foundation and attacking everything in its path. Because of that, the Foundation has made it their mission to destroy the creature, with no success whatsoever. No matter what they throw at it, 682 always manages to survive, adapting to each and every threat. When the SCP Foundation says something is hard to kill, they truly mean it.
682 is completely immortal. It's believed to be the child of the Scarlet King and the fourth bride, which probably explains that immortality. It has survived having 100% of its body destroyed, regenerating from just a single cell. It's survived being erased by an absolute void and existing in a nonexistent state before coming back. Its own personal timeline and history were completely erased, wiping it out of all existence, and it was back just a few seconds later. It's literally impossible to kill or destroy.
SCP-682 adapts to any threat in an instant, thanks to a higher dimensional source
A big part of why 682 is so hard to kill is its adaptability. It can adapt to any threat in an instant, in a way that lets it instantly overcome that threat. It can match any power used against it, meaning its own power increases based on the damage done to it. And it's not just physical force. 682 has adapted to and overcome mind control, molecular decomposition, soul manipulation, reality warping, complete erasure, and even being removed by the SCP authors.
It's true that 682 loses past adaptations as time goes on, but that isn't necessarily the case either, because we've seen it instantly regain any past adaptation it needs.
Lastly, there's the true reason 682 is so hard to destroy: the entity that is the source behind it. That source is basically a higher dimensional being that exists above even thoughts and concepts, so that even the concepts of hatred and adaptiveness exist inside it. 682 is the physical embodiment of that being, manifesting in reality as a way to interact with the physical world. That basically makes it a platonic concept manifesting in reality, which is why it's able to survive everything and adapt to everything.
Doomsday starts the fight as the more powerful monster
This is basically two adaptive, unkillable monsters going at it, so the fight comes down to who can adapt better and who is truly unkillable. That said, there's no doubt that Doomsday starts out as the more powerful monster. He's on par with Superman and the Justice League, and scaling in DC Comics is crazy. Just look at his fights against Superman.
Superman is a totally broken character. He's shattered timelines and broken the boundaries of spacetime during some of his fights. He's even said that concepts like weight or spacetime have lost all their meaning to him. He's pushed apart whole realities, and he shook the whole Phantom Zone, an infinite, limitless and endless universe, and said he could destroy it altogether. This is the guy Doomsday is able to fight and beat.
It's not just Superman. Doomsday has also beaten Darkseid in a fight, although that was probably an avatar of Darkseid and not his multidimensional true form. Doomsday even punched his way out of the Phantom Zone, which is totally broken, because the Phantom Zone is a dimension without dimensions that can exist in several different layers of reality. That's absolutely crazy.
He's going to start off way tougher and way faster too. Beyond surviving attacks from Superman and the whole Justice League, Doomsday survived a blast from a Guardian of the Universe that ripped a hole in the very fabric of spacetime. He's consistently proven he's fast enough to tag both Superman and Wonder Woman, even speed blitzing the whole Justice League.
SCP-682 can scale to Doomsday almost as soon as the fight starts
Here's the problem for Doomsday: 682's adaptability is absolutely broken, and it'll be able to pretty much instantly scale to him once the fight starts. It can scale to the same power level that's used against it, so as soon as Doomsday starts throwing punches, 682 is on his level. We've seen this before. Exposed to enough power, 682 has grown to the size of a planet and eaten countless planets across the universe. It ended up stretching across the entire universe and devouring whole galaxies.
682 has also adapted to the point where it could fight Able, who is powerful enough to destroy entire universes. So expose it to Doomsday, and there's no doubt in my mind that 682 will quickly grow just as powerful, especially since it can literally adapt at the speed of light.
If you don't buy that, and you think Doomsday is so powerful the big lizard couldn't instantly scale to him, there's another way it might happen: the Doomsday virus. Doomsday gained a power where he put a virus into the air that killed everyone instantly. If it didn't kill you, it took over your mind and transformed you into a Doomsday monster, complete with all of Doomsday's powers and abilities.
The problem, again, is 682's adaptability. The virus could take over 682, but the monster has proven way too many times that it can overcome diseases and mind control, even on a universal level, so I can't say the virus would have any negative effects on it. It would gain all of Doomsday's power and abilities without losing its mind. Sure, Doomsday can adapt and grow throughout the fight, no doubt about that. But 682 is so much faster at it, and its adaptability is so much more powerful and versatile that it's still a big advantage for the big lizard.
Doomsday's regeneration is nothing compared to SCP-682's
The next question is which one is more unkillable and has better regeneration. Doomsday's regeneration is obviously insanely broken. He's consistently survived the unsurvivable, and anything that does kill him, he'll eventually come back from even stronger than before. He can come back from scraps of DNA and return to life almost instantly.
But Doomsday is still nothing compared to 682 here. 682 can regenerate from literal nothingness. It can be entirely erased from timelines and come back moments later. No physical power is enough to kill it, because it will instantly come back. 682 will continue to exist as long as it's perceived to exist or the very thought of it exists, and that even counts 682 remembering itself. It has been completely wiped out before, still remembered itself and instantly came back.
All of that happens in an instant. Doomsday sometimes needs time to heal and come back to life, sometimes years or decades. There have even been times when Doomsday was killed for real, like when Imperiex wiped him out, or when Superman brought Doomsday to the end of all time and Entropy officially wiped him out. There's really nothing like that for 682.
SCP-682 has several ways to kill Doomsday, and Doomsday has none
Doomsday has absolutely no way to kill 682, while 682 can kill Doomsday. For starters, they could theoretically just fight forever, until the end of the universe, where Doomsday dies from entropy and 682 keeps on existing. 682 could also theoretically absorb Doomsday and kill him that way, considering it has taken other members of its species in fights and absorbed them to kill them.
Then there's the fact that 682 is super meta. Any time 682 exists in a story, which would theoretically include 682 fighting Doomsday, it has control over that story. 682 has used its ability to control stories to kill 95% of all SCPs in existence, wipe out 70% of the omniverse and fight multiversal beings like the Scarlet King. That's crazy, and it could definitely help 682 completely wipe out Doomsday. 682 could also just erase Doomsday as a narrative concept and take him out that way.
Basically, SCP-682 is one of the most broken characters in all of fiction. For as powerful as Doomsday is, there's just no way he stands much of a chance here. SCP-682 wins, and it's not even close.
Which of these two monsters do you think comes out on top?
