Avengers: Doomsday leak: Wakanda opening and Doom's Sentinels

A reported Wakanda opening, Sentinels under Doctor Doom's control and a confusing mix of heroes have me thinking a multiversal incursion is behind it

Avengers: Doomsday leak: Wakanda opening and Doom's Sentinels

A new leak about the opening scene of Avengers: Doomsday claims the movie begins in Wakanda, with Sentinels under Doctor Doom's control and a confusing mix of heroes forced to fight them. Some of the characters involved come from different universes, which is confusing at first. I have a theory that I think explains it: the scene could be a multiversal incursion, with the X-Men's universe ending up on our main universe in Wakanda.

The report ties into the set leaks that were coming out at the time for an X-Men scene being shot on the Avengers: Doomsday set. This is a leak, so treat it with caution, but it sure does sound cool.

Who is behind the Avengers: Doomsday opening scene leak

The leaks come from a Reddit user who also writes for Star Wars News Net. Apparently, this is the same person who originally leaked details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day from Disney's consumer products convention. That was the sizzle reel that reportedly showed material from Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, revealing new villains for the Spider-Man film.

Some of what this person is reporting is quite interesting. Still, the leak comes from someone who isn't a well-known individual in the community, so take it with a grain of salt.

Report says Avengers: Doomsday begins in Wakanda with Sentinels under Doctor Doom's control

According to the report, Avengers: Doomsday begins in Wakanda, with Shuri, M'Baku and another Wakandan character all wearing new costumes. That's cool. An upgrade is something fresh and new.

Here's where it gets interesting and confusing. The report states, "The Sentinels that we've seen scattered in front of the X-Manssion from the set leaks are said to be under Dr. Doom's control." That's what I expected. In my breakdowns of the set leaks, I've been talking about the destroyed Sentinel pieces on the set and the reports that the X-Mansion is going to be attacked. My first thought was that Doctor Doom was taking control of the Sentinels and using them against the X-Men, and it sounds like that might be the case.

The report then says the X-Men are joined by Deadpool, Gambit, Shang-Chi and the Invisible Woman, who are forced to fight the Sentinels. These characters are all from different universes, which raises the question of where the scene is taking place. Is it all in Wakanda? If so, why is the X-Mansion there?

Why Deadpool and Gambit fit in the X-Men's universe

We could probably assume that Deadpool and Gambit are in the same universe as the X-Men. We learned in Deadpool and Wolverine that it is universe 10005. We could also probably assume that it's the same universe Marvel Studios showed us in the post-credits scene of The Marvels, where we met Binary and Hank McCoy, also known as Beast, and he mentioned Professor X.

We also know from a post-credits scene released by Ryan Reynolds that Gambit is still alive, and Channing Tatum's chair was revealed for Avengers: Doomsday. So we know he's coming back. It's a fair assumption that Deadpool and Gambit are now meeting up with the X-Men in the same universe. That part is easily explained.

The bigger questions are how Shang-Chi and the Invisible Woman get there, and how Wakanda is involved. These could be two different scenes, but I think they might be the same scene.

My theory: an incursion drops the X-Men's universe into Wakanda

Incursions are going to start happening in the multiverse. The reality between two universes gets destroyed, and this typically leads to the destruction of both universes, or at least one of them. We don't really know how Marvel Studios will choose to handle this in the MCU. We saw it a little in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but they could always change it.

What I think is happening is that we're seeing an incursion, and somehow the X-Men's universe ends up on our main universe, in Wakanda. That would explain how characters from our universe, Shang-Chi and the Invisible Woman, would be involved in this fight. As far as I'm concerned, based on the Thunderbolts post-credits scene, they're in the main 616 universe.

We knew these characters would interact eventually, because Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that all of these teams, the original X-Men, the Thunderbolts, the new Avengers and the Wakandans, are going to fight together. So the fact that they're all together here probably means an incursion is happening.

Why opening with this scene would establish Doctor Doom as the threat

It makes sense for the movie to start with this scene, because it would establish several things right away. First, that universes are now colliding and our universe is in jeopardy. In fact, the whole multiverse would be in danger of being destroyed. Second, that teams from different universes are going to join together to stop the multiverse from being destroyed and to stop Doctor Doom.

The third thing it establishes is Doctor Doom as the major threat of Avengers: Doomsday, showing us how strong he is. Marvel did this with Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos killed Heimdall, killed Loki, fought the Hulk one on one and beat Thor when Thor was at his strongest after Thor: Ragnarok. Right away you knew Thanos was no joke and this would be a very hard battle for the Avengers.

They need to do the same for Doctor Doom, especially because there's been no buildup to him whatsoever. Showing him controlling Sentinels, which most people know are major threats to the X-Men, would be epic to see. If he used a combination of his technology and his sorcery, that would show just how big a threat Doom is. None of this is too far-fetched, and it could be what Marvel Studios is planning. According to this report, it's what we're going to see.

How the Thunderbolts "space crisis" could explain the crossover

This scenario would push one universe into the other, and I think a good explanation for how that happens without the universes fully colliding could come from the Thunderbolts post-credits scene. It mentioned a space crisis. We don't know what that is, but we do see the Fantastic Four coming into our universe from another one.

Perhaps the space crisis is similar to what happened with the Fantastic Four. Perhaps space, not only outer space but space as in space and time, is becoming warped, or the lines between two or more universes are starting to erode. We saw that in The Marvels, when Monica Rambeau went through the space of our universe into another. The Fantastic Four arriving in our universe suggests that's what is happening.

That might not only be happening with ships. Perhaps actual pieces of other universes are coming through space and ending up on our Earth. So it's possible the attack on the X-Mansion happens in their universe, but because the multiverse is about to collapse, they end up in Wakanda.

Why every team could end up in Wakanda

It would make sense for some of these newer heroes to be in Wakanda, because Wakanda is probably going to be the base of operations. When you think about the smartest people in the world, you think about the Wakandans. That's why the Avengers went there in Infinity War, to try to get the Stone out of Vision, along with the help of their army. A multiversal problem is complex, and if you have a space crisis and phenomena you don't understand, it would make sense for the new Avengers to seek out Shuri and Wakandan technology. That new Avengers team will eventually include both the Thunderbolts' New Avengers and Sam Wilson's new Avengers.

Here's how I think it could line up. The Fantastic Four end up in our universe, as the Thunderbolts post-credits scene shows. The two new Avengers teams go to check out the ship and make sure it isn't a threat. They find out the Fantastic Four aren't dangerous, and Reed Richards explains what happened in his universe, most likely that they came through a multiversal portal.

The new Avengers probably won't have a grasp on multiversal travel, but the Wakandans might, and they have more advanced technology than anybody in the world. Even Bruce Banner might not know much about multiversal travel. He couldn't really nail time travel in Avengers: Endgame, and Tony Stark had to fix it. With a family and an entire ship from another universe, plus a so-called space crisis, they would likely decide it's out of their league and take everyone to Wakanda.

That would put all the teams Kevin Feige mentioned in one place against Doom: the Thunderbolts, the new Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans and then the X-Men. That could be the opening scene. Everyone arrives in Wakanda, and out of nowhere a different universe starts to appear through space. Suddenly characters like Shang-Chi and the Invisible Woman are helping the X-Men fight the Sentinels and Doctor Doom. That's also how Doom could end up in our universe, establishing him as the main villain of the film. If this report is true, I think this is the explanation that makes the most sense.

I think Marvel once planned a 616 Illuminati, likely Wong, Carol Danvers, Bruce Banner, Sam Wilson, Namor, Valkyrie, Kingo and a Wakandan rep, and I believe Avengers: Doomsday may have been meant to open with Doctor Doom brutally slaughtering them, possibly sparing Sam Wilson.

I'm unsure if this rumored opening (Tobey's Spider-Man and Doc Ock battling the Fox X-Men, ending in Tobey's universe being destroyed) is real, but if true I think it would be brilliant, and I believe Tobey is confirmed to return, though I doubt he dies in the very opening.
